Tool Head Depth

The tool head must be submerged properly. If the tool is not submerged enough the sample will foam or bubble. If the tool is too deep it will not circulate the sample effectively. Both conditions will end up with poor results.

                  Figure 1                                                           Figure 2                                                           Figure 3

In the figure above: Figure 1 will foam and will not process the sample.  Figure 2 does not circulate the liquid efficiently and therefore does not process the sample.

Figure 3 shows that the correct setup will achieve good results in the shortest processing time.

Container Shape and Size

Narrow containers are better than wide ones. Ultrasonic energy is generated from the tool tip and directed downward.

As the sample is processed, the liquid is pushed down in all directions. If the container is too wide, it will not mix effectively, and some samples will remain untreated on the periphery.

It takes less time to process twice the volume in a narrow container than the same volume in a wider container. In addition, the probe should not touch the side or bottom of the container.
