Ultrasonic homogenizers, sometimes called sonicators or sonifiers, destroy tissue and cells through cavitation and ultrasound.
They consist of three parts:
A generator that provides and controls the power
A transducer (also known as a converter) containing a piezoelectric crystal that converts electrical energy into mechanical motion at very high frequency. The converter also amplifies the signal.
The titanium probe or "horn" vibrates rapidly along the longitudinal direction to transmit ultrasonic energy to the sample.
Homogenization occurs both directly through ultrasonic forces and through cavitation (the rapid formation and rupture of bubbles).
The combination of these forces makes ultrasonic homogenizers ideal for cell rupture and particle size reduction.

Ultrasonic homogenizing for Nano materials attracted the attention of scientists, researchers and engineers of almost any branches as nano-sized particles show unique characteristics. Their physical properties such as optical and magnetic properties, specific heats, melting points, and surface reactivity offer high potentials for material with extraordinary strengths. But the smaller particles, the more difficult becomes treatment. Ultrasonic homogenizer is often the best method to effect nano particles effectively. Mostly, high power ultrasonic homogenizer are the only efficient way to achieve the desired milling and dispersing results of nano particles such as nanotubes, graphene, metal oxides etc.
The ultrasonic homogenizing system effects on biological and microbiological systems are manifold: Dispersing & Homogenizing, cell and tissue lysis (e.g. bacteria, yeast, viruses, algae…) & extraction of intracellular materials such as proteins, ribosomes, RNA, lipids, peptides…, plant cell transformation.
Ultrasonic homogenizers work well when your sample consists primarily of liquids or small particles in liquids and you need thorough homogenization.
These measures include reducing particle size, destroying cells, forming emulsions and dispersing of nanoparticles or other small particles.
Ultrasonic homogenizers are not suitable for applications where the sample is mostly solid and the buffer is not immersed in liquid.
For example, homogenization of large, tough tissue samples is usually possible only if the tissue is dipped prior to treatment.
Ultrasonic homogenization generates a lot of heat.
For thermal-sensitive applications (such as RNA extraction), make sure you have an effective way to cool the sample.
Customers' evalution as follow:
The ultrasonic sonicator works very well.
We improved yield by 5% if we run for 5 minutes.
You have been most kind and helpful. Thank you for your expert communication.
Customers' recognition and trust is our driving force.
